Despite controversy, disciples stand by Nirmal Baba

Despite controversy surrounding the self-styled Godman Nirmaljit Singh Narula alias Nirmal Baba, the first day of the Samagam at Talkatora Stadium in the Capital saw his disciples standing by him.
Unmoved by the allegations of amassing immense wealth, followers of babaji who gathered from all parts of the country, unanimously said it was an attempt to malign his image. They said it was all perpetrated by self-proclaimed religious gurus who envied Nirmal Baba and his ever-growing popularity. Such was their enchantment with him that scores of the followers, who were not registered for the samagam, were content having made it to the venue or seen him on the television.

The crowd assembled at the Talkatora Stadium also went into frenzy over the allegations of financial irregularities by Nirmal Baba. However, strict security arrangements were made at the venue to avert any untoward incident. As many as 200 security guards and bouncers were deployed all around to keep the followers under control and also keep a constant watch on the activities going around. A large number of unregistered followers and visitors, who were strictly prohibited inside the stadium premises in absence of the registration number, stayed afoot outside till conclusion of the samagam.
Baba’s supporter rejected the allegations against him saying they were baseless. “We have full faith in him (Nirmal Baba). He neither asks people to follow him not discourages them from following other religious or spiritual guru. It is all a conspiracy to defame him,” said Baba’s followers in one voice. A family which came all the way from Valsad in Gujarat to attend the Samagam said, “Baba connects people through religion. He is unlike others who divide the people on the lines of religion. We have full faith in him. He teaches people to be fearless and his teachings give us the peace of mind.” Another devotee Kavita Bhawsar from Bhopal said Baba has helped people get rid of superstitions and this is what troubling fake Godmen the most.
However, much to the cheer of nearly 5,000 of his supporters, Nirmal baba said on Tuesday evening that he feared none and was ready to give an accurate account of all his wealth. He also told his supporters that he has deposited `56 crore as tax. It may be noted that Nirmal Baba’s is under scanner for his immense wealth especially following reports of the purchase of a hotel in Delhi using donations from his followers.
